Hi! I’m Whitney.

One of my most vivid childhood memories is of sitting in the pews of Temple Rodef Shalom in Northern Virginia in 2004, watching my older sister chant her Haftarah with poise and beauty just a year before my own bat mitzvah was scheduled. All I could think was “How the HECK am I going to do THAT?”

Thankfully, I had a great teacher who was able to answer that question for me, and as an adult, it is my great joy to be that person for my students. For New York City (& beyond) 12-year-olds, juggling the demands of school, extracurriculars, social pressures, and all of the other expectations of growing up, learning to read and chant Hebrew can feel like a gargantuan task.

I use my passion for teaching, my humor, and my calm and encouraging demeanor to connect with my students as we, together, prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. I work with students of all experience levels and create a personalized plan to guide them through each step of the process. We start by developing their Hebrew skills, building their connection with Torah, crafting their public speaking, and teaching my method of slow and steady practice that has proven to make even the most inexperienced student confident and comfortable on the bimah. I am so committed to meeting every student where they are, honoring their identity, and helping them feel welcome and connected to Judaism.

Since I began tutoring on the Upper East Side in 2016 soon after graduating with a Bachelor of Music I have earned myself a reputation as one of the top tutors in the city, having trained dozens of students from all of the top schools in the area (Horace Mann School, Riverdale Country School, The Dalton School, Trinity School, The Brearley School, Berkeley Carroll, The Windward School, Stephen Gaynor School, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, The Town School and Trevor Day School to name a few). I am especially well known for my success working with students with learning differences such as ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia.  If your child works with me, you can trust that they will not only be prepared for this meaningful milestone, but also that they will have a great time getting there.
